Grace Taylor, MLIS student at St. Catherine University, St. Paul, Minnesota
What inspired you to study in an LIS program?
I had recently left a physical therapy graduate program and was feeling lost. I spent months looking for jobs only to get interviews and never move on. Dejected, I looked back into getting a masters degree. I looked at oral and public history (my undergrad was in history) and finally found the MLIS. I looked into all the things that can be done with an MLIS and talked to people and was told by one library professional that the thing they liked most is that they learned something new every day. I think that was what really drew me in.
What part(s) of your program are you enjoying/have you enjoyed?
I have enjoyed just meeting people and sharing our stories! Meeting new people and learning with them is one of the best ways to widen your network of people in your circle and community and I value that a lot. I have made some great friends from my time in my program so far.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my work ethic, more specifically, I am most proud of my ability to make the leap to leave graduate school, find a job, and then take the subsequent leap to go back to school.
What are you most looking forward to in your future career?
I am looking forward to serving people and learning. I do not know what field I will end up in yet so I am mostly just excited to meet people and serve my community whatever that looks like.
What’s something you’ve read recently that you’ve enjoyed?
ANYTHING BY FREDRIK BACKMAN!!!! More specifically the Beartown series. I just finished The Winners and it was such a beautiful conclusion to the series!
Do you have a website that you’d like to share?
Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
Some of my hobbies include hiking, travel, rock climbing, and ice hockey (I am a goalie). Post school I am hoping to move to Stockholm, Sweden.
